Stuttgart announced on Tuesday that 30-year-old Pascal Stentzel will leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires this summer. Stentzel's next destination remains undecided.
Stentzer primarily plays as a right-back, but can also play as a center-back, right midfielder, and defensive midfielder. He previously played for Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg, and joined Stuttgart on a loan-to-buy deal in July 2019.
To date, Störtzl has made 139 appearances for Stuttgart, contributing 2 goals and 11 assists. He not only played a crucial role in Stuttgart's return to the Bundesliga in the 2019/20 season, but also helped the team achieve the remarkable feat of finishing as runners-up in the Bundesliga and winning the German Cup in the 2024/25 season.
Regarding Stenzel's departure, Stuttgart's sporting director Fabian Wolgmuth said with deep emotion: "When Pascal Stenzel joined Stuttgart, the team's competitive situation was not optimistic. Under Pascal's leadership, Stuttgart fought their way from the 2. Bundesliga to the Champions League and lifted the German Cup trophy."
"In the ever-changing world of professional football, it is truly remarkable to play for the same team for seven years. During this time, Pascal always put the team and the club first. He proved himself to be not only an extremely reliable player, but also an outstanding representative of the Stuttgart crest."
"Both on and off the pitch, Pascal has made outstanding contributions to Stuttgart's success. We sincerely thank Pascal for this and wish him and his family all the best in the future."
In his farewell letter, Stenzel wrote: "The seven years I spent at Stuttgart were so special not only because of the length of time, but also because of the countless unforgettable moments we shared. Starting in the 2. Bundesliga: promotion, a last-minute survival thriller, the relegation play-offs, league runner-up, the Champions League, and the German Cup. We went through it all together. Time and again, you made me realize that for you, recognition and loyalty are often just as important as performance on the pitch. This means a lot to me."
“I had hoped to say goodbye wearing a Stuttgart jersey. Now, I want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who has been with me on this journey. You are the ones who make Stuttgart so special – and I hope you will always maintain that quality, no matter what ups and downs the team goes through.”
