The Lakers have hired "rocket scientist" Ramas as their assistant general manager.

The Los Angeles Lakers have made their first major move of the offseason. According to ESPN, the Lakers have hired Rohan Ramadas as assistant general manager, working under team president and general manager Rob Pelinka.

Ramas previously served as Vice President of Strategy and Operations for the New Orleans Pelicans, and will assume similar responsibilities after joining the Lakers. Pelinka revealed the requirements for the position in a season-ending interview last week: "Primarily at the strategic level, responsible for salary cap space, data, and analytics."

Ramadas has a degree from the University of Southern California and worked for Aerospace Corporation for more than a decade before entering the NBA.

A Pelicans insider described Ramas as a "true rocket scientist." During his time with the Pelicans, Ramas successfully applied artificial intelligence (AI) and wrote code models to assist management in decision-making.

The Lakers, who have won 50 games for two consecutive seasons, are actively improving their management team. Reportedly, the team is also interviewing another assistant general manager candidate who will be specifically responsible for professional scouting, draft evaluation, and player development.

Pelinka stated that the team plans to leverage this summer to fully integrate the resources brought by new owner Mark Walter and further strengthen cooperation and connections with their "brother team," the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are also under Walter's ownership.
