American reporter: Kenny Atkinson will continue as Cavaliers head coach next season.

According to reports from Shams Charania and Joe Vardon on Tuesday, 58-year-old Kenny Atkinson is confirmed to remain as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers next season. However, the Cavaliers are expected to make significant changes to their roster this summer.

Led by Kenny Atkinson, the Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 52-30 record, ultimately securing the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Despite being swept 0-4 by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, this was their furthest run in 34 years without LeBron James.

Including the 2024/25 season, Atkinson has accumulated a regular season record of 116 wins and 48 losses during his tenure as head coach of the Cavaliers, with a winning percentage of 70.7%. As a result, he has won the full support of the Cavaliers' management and received public support from key players such as Donovan Mitchell.

"This is ridiculous," Mitchell stated clearly after the Cavaliers' elimination yesterday. "We accomplished something we haven't done since 2018. There's always criticism of Kenny, but why? We made it to the Eastern Conference Finals thanks to Kenny's guidance, not because we were coaching ourselves."

“I love Kenny. We all love Kenny. We will stand with Kenny, and that’s the most important thing.”

James Harden also spoke highly of Atkinson: "He's a classic 'player-coach.' He knows it all too well and understands his team very well. Of course, someone always has to take the blame, whether it's me, Kenny, or someone else, or the whole team. They'll always point the finger at someone. But I think Kenny did an incredible job. He got me into the team as quickly as possible and made me understand my role on the court."

"The result is indeed quite unfortunate," Harden concluded. "Any team that has gone through two tough rounds against strong defensive teams will find the situation very difficult to navigate."
