According to a report by ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks on Sunday, Jalen Duren is eligible for a max contract extension after being named to the 2025/26 NBA All-Third Team.
Duren, 22, is a 2.08-meter tall, 113-kilogram center who entered the NBA in June 2022 as the 13th overall pick in the first round. He has gradually developed into one of the league's top interior players with the Detroit Pistons, accumulating 276 regular season games to date, averaging 13.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 27.0 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 65.2%.
In the 2025/26 season, Duren underwent a complete transformation in his career under the guidance of head coach JB Bickerstaff. He played a total of 70 regular season games, averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 28.2 minutes per game, helping the team advance to the playoffs with the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
With his All-NBA Third Team selection, Durant is eligible to sign a five-year contract with the Pistons this summer, starting at 30% of the salary cap and potentially worth up to $287.1 million. If the contract is executed at the highest level, Durant's salary over the next five years will be $49.5 million, $53.5 million, $57.4 million, $61.4 million, and $65.3 million respectively.
Spotrac salary expert Keith Smith further pointed out that other teams could offer Durant a four-year, $177.4 million contract this summer. As for the Pistons, they have the right to match the offer as Durant's former team.
Given Duren's struggles during the playoffs, Smith is not optimistic that he will receive a supermax contract. He believes the Pistons are more likely to reach a five-year, $185 million extension with an average annual salary of around $37 million.
According to ESPN statistics, Duren played a total of 14 games during the playoffs, but only averaged 10.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. The Pistons were ultimately eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, ending their run in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
