Nuno Espirito Santo admitted he was saddened by the team's failure to avoid relegation, while thanking the fans for their continued support and encouragement.

Following West Ham United's relegation from the Premier League, Nuno Espirito Santo paid tribute to the fans who had supported the team. West Ham United defeated Leeds United 3-0 at home in their final match of the 2025/26 season, but finished 18th due to Tottenham's victory over Everton, thus being relegated to the Championship next season.

The team amassed 25 points in 17 games from mid-January, but only managed 14 points in the first 21 rounds of the season, ultimately sending them into the relegation zone. The manager expressed disappointment at failing to achieve their goal of avoiding relegation, while thanking the fans for their unwavering support over the past nine months, never missing a game, whether home or away.

In Sunday's match, the fans once again demonstrated their powerful support, propelling the team to a victorious and dignified end to the season. They will continue to support West Ham United as they embark on their journey back to the Premier League next season.

Nuno Espirito Santo said: "We all believed and hoped that things would turn out differently, and I think we accomplished what we had to do today. We knew the situation would be difficult because fate was no longer entirely in our hands. But we still finished the season with fighting spirit and dignity, played a great game, and won."

"Based on past experience, 39 points are usually enough to avoid relegation. However, this season's points situation is quite special, with some unexpected distributions. Nevertheless, such a score is ultimately not enough to avoid relegation, making it a difficult day for everyone."

Speaking about the entire season, Nuno Espirito Santo said: "Throughout the season, we failed to consistently deliver the performances that the players should have. The team experienced some setbacks, but we were able to respond each time."

"Looking back on this season, it has been a very difficult journey. As for the points in the second half of the season, I don't know the exact number, but in terms of performance, although we can't say we played exceptionally well, we did a decent job in terms of competition. More importantly, the spirit, unity and cohesion shown by the team are something to be proud of."

“The support from the fans is incredible. Especially at the London Stadium, we have started to truly feel like we are at home, and this is inseparable from the fans’ continued and enthusiastic support. Even during many difficult times, the fans have always stood behind us.”

"We are also very upset, and we can understand the fans' frustration, disappointment, and even anger. However, we have given our all on the field."

"In a club, the fans are the most important people. Our fans have always stood with the team through thick and thin. They know the team, understand the game, and are aware of the pressure and challenges the players face. It is during difficult times that they give us support and energy. But unfortunately, we were ultimately unable to repay them with results."
