AC Milan released a statement on Monday confirming the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri as manager. He was scheduled to take over from Sergio Conceição in July 2025, but was dismissed in less than a year.
The 58-year-old Allegri, who led AC Milan and Juventus to six Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia titles, and three Italian Super Cup titles, is considered one of the most accomplished Italian coaches. However, his performance after his second stint at the club has fallen far short of expectations.
In the 2025/26 season, AC Milan, under Allegri's leadership, once maintained their title aspirations. However, they only managed 2 wins, 1 draw, and 5 losses in the last 8 league matches, ultimately finishing fifth in the league and missing out on Champions League qualification for the following season.
In an official statement, AC Milan said: "After last year's disappointment, the club owners have set the goal for the team to return to the Champions League and lay the foundation for continuing to compete for the Serie A title."
"We were firmly in the top two of Serie A for most of the season, with a very good chance of winning the league title. However, our performance in the final stages of the season was in stark contrast to what we had done before, and last night's defeat in the final round turned the entire season into a complete failure."
With Allegri's dismissal, AC Milan's management underwent a complete overhaul. AC Milan also confirmed that, effective immediately, they are parting ways with CEO Giorgio Fleani, Sporting Director Iglesias Tare, and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada.
The statement read: "It is time for change and a complete overhaul of the football operations system. We thank them for their hard work and dedication to AC Milan during their tenure."
Regarding subsequent personnel appointments, AC Milan stated that they will be announced in due course: "Our goal is to be fully prepared for next season."
