Official: Augsburg have signed Portuguese striker Rodrigo Ribeiro on loan, with a buy-out fee of €6 million.

Augsburg officially announced on Thursday the signing of Portuguese striker Rodrigo Ribeiro on loan from Sporting Lisbon for half a season. Ribeiro will wear the number 21 jersey for Augsburg, and the contract is expected to include a €6 million buy-out clause.

The 20-year-old Ribeiro came through the Sporting Lisbon youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in the Champions League on March 9, 2022. Due to a lack of playing time, he was loaned to Nottingham Forest and AVS from February 2024 onwards.

To date, Ribeiro has made 12 appearances for Sporting Lisbon. He has also made only 5 appearances for Nottingham Forest, without contributing a goal or assist.

Following the signing, Augsburg's sporting director, Beni Weber, said: "Rodrigo is only 20 years old, yet he has already had an impressive career. He is technically gifted, energetic, and a very dangerous scorer, which not only enriches our attacking options but also intensifies the competition for that position – exactly what we need. We look forward to embarking on a new journey with him."

Ribeiro added, “From the beginning, I was drawn to the opportunity to join Augsburg and their plans. I’ve joined an ambitious club that trusts young players and gives us the chance to prove ourselves. I hope to demonstrate my abilities in training, continue to improve, and do everything I can to help the team achieve its goals this season.”
