Champions League - Salah scores as Liverpool beat Lille 2-1

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League ushered in the seventh round of the competition. Liverpool, sitting at Anfield, defeated Lille from Ligue 1 2-1 with goals contributed by Salah and Elliott.

Lille took the initiative to attack at the beginning of the game. Gudmundsson received a pass from Alex Sandro and shot from the penalty area but missed. In the 7th minute, Liverpool midfielder Soboslai made a diagonal pass, and Salah took the ball and shot before entering the penalty area, but the shot was too straight and the ball was caught by the Lille goalkeeper.

In the 19th minute, Aissa Mendy sent a cross from the right, but the Liverpool defenders saved the chance. In the 21st minute, Liverpool tried to counterattack, Salah passed the ball, but Diaz in the penalty area could not pose a threat. In the 34th minute, Tsimikas took possession of the ball and immediately organized an opportunity. Salah received Jones's through pass and scored a long shot from the top of the penalty area, helping Liverpool open the scoring with a 1-0 lead.

In the 41st minute, Nunez passed the ball, Soboslai got the ball and shot but missed. In the 44th minute, Salah received Diaz's pass and entered the penalty area with a low shot, but the ball missed the post.

In the 47th minute of the second half, Nunez created an attacking opportunity. Salah got the ball and shot at the defense, but the ball went wide. In the 53rd minute, Tsimikas took a free kick and Kwaanza headed the ball but it went high. In the 59th minute, Elliott sent a through ball and Diaz was about to meet it but was knocked down by Aissa Mendy. Aissa Mendy accumulated two yellow cards and was sent off, leaving Lille with 10 players.

In the 62nd minute, Gudmundsson made a triangle pass from the penalty area, Haraldsson went forward to attack but was blocked by Liverpool defenders, then Jonathan David made a supplementary shot and scored, helping Lille to tie the score 1-1. In the 67th minute, Tsimikas' corner kick was cleared, Elliott at the top of the penalty area took a long shot, and the ball touched the opponent's player and deflected into the net, allowing Liverpool to take the lead again with 2-1.

In the 75th minute, Liverpool replaced Diaz with Chiesa. In the 82nd minute, Tsimikas passed the ball, Chiesa followed up and broke into the penalty area, shook off the defense and shot hard, but the ball was blocked by the Lille goalkeeper.

In the second half stoppage time, Chiesa shook off the defense and shot in the penalty area, but the Lille goalkeeper saved it. Then Nunez stepped forward and scored, but the goal was ruled invalid because he was offside.

In the end, Liverpool beat Lille 2-1 at home. After winning seven games in a row, Liverpool currently ranks first in the standings with 21 points and has advanced to the round of 16 in advance.
