The Korea eSports Association (KeSPA) and Riot Games have officially announced the commencement of the bidding process for the host city of the knockout stage of the 2027 League of Legends World Championship (S17).
This bidding process includes the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final showdown scheduled for November 14, 2027. The final list of selected cities will be officially announced in August 2026.
To ensure the smooth running of this top-tier global esports event, the organizers have set clear standards for the venues in bidding cities. Specifically, the venues for the quarterfinals and semifinals must accommodate 5,000 to 8,000 spectators, and due to stage construction requirements, the venue requisition period is from October 22nd to November 9th.
The finals venue must be able to accommodate at least 10,000 fans, and the application period is from October 30th to November 17th. Additionally, the host city must provide a dedicated fan area near the venue with a capacity of approximately 5,000 people. Given the varying scales at each stage, bidding cities are permitted to use multiple venues to host the event.
In terms of tournament rules, the 2027 World Championship will continue the current format, maintaining the number of participating teams of 18 and a total prize pool of up to $5 million, and retaining a one-week break between the semi-finals and the finals.
This will be the fourth time South Korea has hosted the League of Legends World Championship, following its hosting in 2014, 2018, and 2023. In the 2023 home tournament, T1 team won the championship on home soil. With its strong esports heritage and extensive experience in hosting tournaments, cities like Seoul or Busan are poised to once again become the focus of global esports attention.
