Chelsea will face their old rivals Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium. Interim manager Callum McFarlane, who has been appointed to lead the team until the end of the season, has made a clear statement before the match, urging the entire team to take responsibility and strive for a thrilling victory to reverse their recent slump.
Faced with the team's recent failure to meet expectations, McFarlane, who briefly led the team in January, did not choose to shirk responsibility. He bluntly stated: "Everyone at the club must feel a heavy burden on their shoulders, whether it's the staff or the players."
"The players know this, and the staff knows it too. We've all talked about it, and everyone understands that our recent form hasn't been good enough. We will give it our all to ensure we play well on Sunday."
Regarding the team's current situation, McFarlane believes the key to change lies in breaking the losing streak: "I think football is largely about momentum, and obviously we've been on a losing streak recently. But that can be changed with a positive result, a positive performance, and that's our goal."
Besides striving for a place in the FA Cup final, Chelsea also faces the crucial task of narrowing the points gap in the Premier League final stretch and aiming for Champions League qualification. McFarlane revealed that the team is currently highly united in its goals: "The whole team is more united than ever because we all want to try to win every game from now until the end of the season."
Speaking about his players, McFarlane expressed his full trust and encouragement: "They are all top players. Although they haven't been able to play at an extremely high level for various reasons, they will take responsibility for it. You have to adapt, you have to look forward, and you have to be ready for the next challenge."
