In Game 4 of the Western Conference first-round series, the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Denver Nuggets to take a commanding 3-1 series lead, but the victory came at a heavy price.
Starting defenders Anthony Edwards and Donte Di Vincenzo both suffered serious leg injuries. Head coach Chris Finch announced somberly after the game that Di Vincenzo's season-ending Achilles tendon injury was confirmed, while the severity of Edwards' left knee injury still requires further evaluation.
Just 1 minute and 19 seconds into the game, DiVincenzo slipped while accelerating to chase the ball, and his right foot was unable to bear weight at all. He eventually left the stadium in a wheelchair, and the footage of his injury immediately brought to mind a torn Achilles tendon.
However, the Timberwolves' misfortune continued. Late in the second quarter, Edwards twisted his left knee while landing after defending an opponent's layup. He was then helped back to the locker room in pain by staff and announced that he would not return to the game.
Despite losing two key players, the Timberwolves, playing with a depleted roster, still showed great resilience. Thanks to Eywynn Dosom's phenomenal 43-point performance, the team ultimately pulled off a crucial 112-96 victory.
The loss of these two key players is undoubtedly a huge blow to the Timberwolves. In this series, Edwards averaged 23 points and 8 rebounds, serving as the team's anchor; while DiVincenzo averaged 14.3 points in the first three games, making an astonishing 11 of 22 three-point attempts, making him an indispensable outside weapon.
