St. Pauli signed A-League midfielder Samuel Clyne this summer, with the contract's duration unknown.

St. Pauli officially announced on Friday that they have signed Australian midfielder Samuel Clyne from Brisbane Roar. The new contract will take effect on July 1, with the exact length of the contract currently unclear.

The 22-year-old Clyne started his career at Brisbane Roar, with a brief stint at Gold Coast Knights early in his professional career. Since returning to Brisbane in September 2024, he has made 45 appearances in the A-League, scoring 9 goals and providing 1 assist.

Regarding the signing, St. Pauli's sporting director, Andreas Bonneman, commented: "We are delighted to welcome a versatile player who will provide our midfield with more tactical options. Sam is a well-rounded player, contributing both offensively and defensively, and became a key player for Brisbane after two seasons in the A-League. We believe he is ready to take the next step and establish himself at St. Pauli Football Club."

St. Pauli manager Alexander Bressin added: "Sam has exciting qualities and can play in multiple positions in midfield. He has excellent anticipation, vision, and accurate passing, and is also eager to take shots. Defensively, he creates opportunities to regain possession through aggressive pressing and courage. Thanks to his height advantage, he is also very intimidating in aerial duels."

Clyne said, "I am very much looking forward to joining St. Pauli Football Club, meeting new teammates, experiencing a foreign culture and a new league. In recent years, the club has successfully brought in and developed international players from Australia and other countries. The club management has drawn up an exciting blueprint for me, so I am sure this is the right choice for me."

With the arrival of Clyne, St. Pauli will welcome their third Australian player, following Jackson Irving and Conor Metcalfe. However, their top priority now is to fight for points in the next three league matches to secure their survival in the league.

St. Pauli currently sits third from bottom in the Bundesliga with a record of 6 wins, 8 draws, and 17 losses, accumulating 26 points, just one point ahead of relegation-threatened Wolfsburg. Their next opponents are Mainz 05, RB Leipzig, and Wolfsburg.
