The NBA officially announced the final shortlist for this season's regular season awards today. The highly anticipated regular season MVP award will be fiercely contested by three-time winner Nikola Jokic, defending MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Victor Wimbledon.
This season, all three candidates delivered dominant performances: Jokic made history by becoming the first player in NBA history to win both the assists and rebounding titles in a single season; Alexander maintained a high field goal percentage of 55%; and Wernbanyama delivered a stellar performance with an average of 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.
Besides the MVP award, the competition for other major awards is equally exciting. In the Defensive Player of the Year voting, Viktor Axelsen, who has won the league's block title for the third consecutive year, is undoubtedly the favorite, but he will face strong challenges from Chet Holmgren and Ozar Thompson.
Meanwhile, Alexander also made a strong showing on two fronts, joining Anthony Edwards and Jamal Murray on the final list for the Key Player of the Year award.
In the Most Improved Player category, Jalen Duren and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who have seen significant increases in scoring this season, along with Deni Avdija, who is making his first All-Star appearance, will compete for the honor.
The highly anticipated Rookie of the Year award will be contested among several superstars, with Cooper Flagg, Kohn Knupper, and VJ Etchcomb emerging victorious. In the Coach of the Year voting, JB Bickerstaff, Mitch Johnson, and Joe Mazura received final nominations.
