England star defender John Stones has officially confirmed that he will leave Manchester City, where he has played for ten years, when his contract expires this season.
Since joining Manchester City from Everton for £47.5 million in 2016, Stones has made 293 appearances for the club. As Pep Guardiola's second major signing after taking over, Stones has not only witnessed the team's rise but is also an absolute hero for Manchester City.
Over the course of a decade, Stones helped the team achieve a grand slam of honors, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League title, and as a key player, helped the team win the treble in 2023, scoring a total of 19 goals.
Upon announcing his departure, 31-year-old Stones posted a heartfelt farewell message to fans on social media. He wrote emotionally, "This has been my home for the past ten years, and it will be my home for the rest of my life."
"It's been a rollercoaster ride. I came here as a child and I'm leaving as a man. I've become a father, a husband, and an accomplished player on the field."
“I have achieved all my dreams and lifted all the trophies I came here for. Not only that, I have also gained everyone’s love and the bonds I have with everyone. Every dream has been realized more perfectly than I could have imagined.”
Despite being plagued by injuries for much of his career, Stones won the unconditional love of fans with his elegant passing style and all-out effort on the pitch. With his departure this summer, the Etihad Stadium will once again bid farewell to a legendary veteran laden with honors, and Stones' name will forever be etched in Manchester City's history.
