Bayern Munich's Germany international winger Serge Gnabry announced on Thursday via his official Instagram account that he will be ruled out for the rest of the season and will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada due to a serious thigh injury.
According to Gnabry's official statement, he has experienced a rollercoaster of emotions over the past few days. He is happy to have helped Bayern win the Bundesliga title again, but also frustrated by the shattering of his dream of playing in the 2026 World Cup.
Despite this, he will continue to support his teammates from home and thank everyone who sent him encouraging messages and expressed their concern.
Gnabry suffered a partial tear of his right adductor muscle during the final training session before Bayern's Bundesliga match against Stuttgart last weekend, forcing him to miss the game.
Despite Gnabry's absence, Bayern Munich still managed to win 4-2 in that match.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second World Cup Gnabry has missed.
Gnabry was also forced to miss the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia due to the same injury.
In the previous World Cup held in Qatar, Gnabry played three matches for the Germany national team, scoring a goal against Costa Rica, helping the team to a 4-2 victory.
On the other hand, the 30-year-old former Arsenal player also missed the 2024 European Championship due to injury.
Internationally, Gnabry has made 59 appearances for Die Mannschaft in all competitions to date, scoring 26 goals and providing 11 assists.
Germany is in Group E of this World Cup, along with Ivory Coast, Ecuador, as well as Curaçao, who are participating for the first time.
This season, Gnabry has made 37 appearances for Bayern Munich in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists, helping the team win their 35th Bundesliga title and reach the DFB-Pokal final and the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
