Fulham announced on their official website on Wednesday that they have triggered the contract extension clause of former England U21s international left-wing back Ryan Sessegnon.
According to Fulham's official statement, Sessegnon's contract has been automatically extended for another year, until the summer of 2027.
After completing his contract extension, Sessegnon, who was interviewed by the Fulham official website again, said: "Of course, this is the club I've always dreamed of. I feel very comfortable here, I'm happy with the team's current situation, and I hope to finish strong this season and the last season."
About Ryan Sessegnon
The 25-year-old Sessegnon was born on May 18, 2000, in Roehampton, England. He is 1.75 meters tall and primarily plays as a left wing-back, but can also play as a left midfielder or left winger. He holds dual English and Beninese citizenship. His twin brother, Steven, currently plays for Wigan Athletic, and his cousin, Stephane, is a former Benin legendary international striker who has played for Paris Saint-Germain, Sunderland, and West Bromwich Albion.
Sessegnon joined Fulham's youth academy at the age of 8 along with his brother Steven. He made his completed his Fulham first-team debut in a Carabao Cup match in August 2016, at the age of 16 years and 81 days, breaking the record as Fulham's youngest ever player to appear in a match (a record later broken by Harvey Elliott, the England U21s international who has since moved to Liverpool).
During his three-year spell with the Cottagers, Sessegnon helped them win the EFL Championship play-offs once and earned praise from numerous European media outlets, attracting interest from top clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, and RB Leipzig.
In August 2019, Sessegnon moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £25 million.
However, due to limited playing time, Sessegnon agreed to a loan move to Hoffenheim the following October.
After returning to the team following his loan spell in the summer of 2021, Sessegnon officially became one of Spurs' first-team regulars. However, since February 2023, he has been plagued by a persistent hamstring injury, preventing him from performing at his best.
After his contract expired in the summer of 2024, Sessegnon returned to Fulham as a free agent.
Since returning to Fulham, Sessegnon has made 52 appearances for the Premier League club in all competitions so far, scoring 6 goals and providing 7 assists.
