Fabrizio Romano reported that John Stones is expected to leave Manchester City as a free agent at the end of the season..

Sky Sports' renowmed Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, exclusively reported on Tuesday in his paid column that England international defender John Stones is expected to leave Manchester City as a free agent at the end of the season.

According to Romano, Stones' role in the team has almost completely diminished due to never ending injuries in recent years, and coupled with his perceived advanced age, Manchester City is expected to part ways with Stones after his contract expires and he becomes a free agent at the end of the season, unless unforeseen circumstances arise.

However, unlike many other players, no other club has yet made any offers for the England international, who will turn 32 next month. As long as his physical condition permits, Stones has no intention of retiring after leaving Manchester City this season.

If this rumour is true, Stones' 10-year stint with the Citizens will come to an end, and he will become the second key player to leave Manchester City after captain, Portugual international midfielder Bernardo Silva, at the end of the season.

About John Stones

John Stones, 31, was born on May 28, 1994, in Barnsley, England. He is 1.88 meters tall and primarily plays as a center-back, but can also play as a right-back or as a defensive midfielder.

Stones joined Barnsley's youth academy at a young age and completed his Barnsley first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in March 2012.

On the winter transfer window deadline day of the following year, Stones moved to Everton for £3 million.

During his two-and-a-half-year spell with the Toffees, Stones' outstanding performances earned him a nomination for the 2014 Golden Boy award, even attracting interest from Chelsea, though the Blues' three offers were rejected.

In August 2016, Stones joined Manchester City for £50 million, becoming one of the most expensive English defenders in football history.

Since joining the Cityzens, Stones has made 292 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions so far, scoring 19 goals and providing 9 assists. During which he has won 6 Premier League titles, 3 Carabao Cups, 2 FA Cups, 2 Community Shields, 1 UEFA Champions League title, 1 UEFA Super Cup, and 1 Club World Cup.
