The Athletic's resident renowned reporter Sam Amick, exclusively reported on Monday that the Milwaukee Bucks are interested in appointing former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins as their new head coach.
According to the report, Bucks co-owners Wes Edens, Jimmy Haslam, and general manager Jon Horst recently flew to Jenkins' Memphis residence to meet with him.
During the meeting, the two sides held preliminary discussions regarding the appointment as head coach. Currently, they have not discussed contract, salary, or personal terms, but they are expected to meet frequently to continue further discussions.
It is now certain that Jenkins has become the Milwaukee Bucks' top target for the head coaching position.
However, the Bucks are not the only team interested in hiring Taylor Jenkins.
Previously, the Orlando Magic were also rumoured to be interested in appointing Jenkins.
The team is considering parting ways with head coach Jamahl Mosley.
Jenkins, 41, was head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies from 2019 to 2025, with a record of 250 wins and 214 losses (53.9% winning percentage).
During his six seasons, the Grizzlies made the playoffs four times, including a second-round appearance in the 2021/22 season, tying the team's single-season record of 56 wins.
However, in his final NBA playoff appearance, the team parted ways with him with nine games remaining in the regular season, preventing Jenkins from securing a coaching opportunity.
Prior to coaching the Grizzlies, Jenkins served as an assistant coach for the Bucks in the 2018-19 season, assisting Mike Budenholzer. That season, the Bucks won 60 games and reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
Recently, former Bucks head coach Doc Rivers resigned after the team finished the season with a 32-50 record, marking the first time the team had missed the playoffs since the 2015-16 season.
After succeeding Adrian Griffin in January 2024, Rivers led the Bucks to a 97-103 record in his two and a half seasons as head coach.
With former point guard Damian Lillard and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo injured, the Bucks failed to progress far in the playoffs in Rivers' first two seasons in charge.
