In a decisive Game 7 of the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Orlando Magic suffered a crushing 94-116 defeat to the Detroit Pistons, marking their third consecutive first-round exit. Magic star Paul Banchalo gave his all, scoring 38 points in a losing effort.
With key forward Franz Wagner sidelined due to injury, Benjamin was forced to shoulder the offensive burden in the final stages of the series. In the first three quarters of Game 7, he efficiently scored 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting, but his teammates were ice-cold, combining for only 10-of-32 shooting (a dismal 27% field goal percentage).
Lacking offensive support, Bencheiro was outnumbered and could only watch helplessly as his team was eliminated. At the post-match press conference, the young leader could not hide his frustration.
When a reporter pointedly asked whether the team had the talent to win now, Bencheiro abandoned diplomatic language and chose to face reality: "The nice answer is yes, but if you look at the results of the past three years, the answer is no."
"We've been eliminated in the first round for three years in a row. To be honest, I can't say that we're strong enough to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals or the NBA Finals right now, because the results speak for themselves."
Benjamin Bankel's candor is not only a reflection of his frustration with the consecutive losses, but also a clear signal to the Magic's management. He has already proven his superstar status on the playoff stage, and if the team truly wants to contend for the championship, bringing in strong support for him during the offseason is now urgent.
