The Athletic's resident renowned Everton team correspondent Patrick Boyland, exclusively reported on Sunday that Everton will automatically trigger the buy-out clause of on-loan Freiburg German midfielder, Merlin Röhl.
According to the report, Everton agreed to automatically trigger the buy-out clause when they signed Röhl on-loan last summer, provided the club avoids relegation.
Röhl's buy-out fee is estimated to be around £18 million, excluding performance-related bonuses. The player is expected to sign a four to five-year long-term deal with the Toffees, which runs until the summer of 2030 or 2031.
About Merlin Röhl
The 23-year-old Merlin Röhl was born on July 5, 2002, in Potsdam, Germany. He is 1.91 meters tall and primarily plays as a center midfielder, but can also play as an attacking midfielder or defensive midfielder.
Röhl played for the youth academy of Babelsberg as a child before joining Ingolstadt's youth academy in 2018, making his Ingolstadt first-team debut in November 2020.
In August 2022, Röhl moved to Freiburg for €1.2 million.
During his three-year spell with the Breisgau-Brasilianer, Röhl helped the Bundesliga club reach the DFB-Pokalsemi-finals once and the UEFA Europa League Round of 16s once.
On 2025 summer transfer window deadline day, Röhl joined Everton on-loan.
This season, so far, Röhl has made 13 appearances for the Premier League club in all competitions, without scoring or assisting.
