Scott Parker reaches agreement with Burnley to step down as head coach

Burnley Football Club has officially confirmed that following the team's relegation, head coach Scott Parker has reached an agreement with the club to officially step down, effective immediately.

Since Burnley's defeat to Manchester City last week, which secured their relegation to the Championship, Parker has had in-depth discussions with the club chairman about the future, and the two sides ultimately decided to end their cooperation amicably.

Nearly two years ago, Parker took over Burnley and led the team to promotion to the Premier League in the 2024-25 season with an impressive 100 points and a club record of 33 unbeaten games. However, the team failed to avoid relegation in the top flight this season.

Upon leaving his post, Parker focused on expressing gratitude for his time coaching the club and delivered a farewell speech: "It has been a great honor to coach this great club for the past two years. I have enjoyed every moment we have spent together, but I feel it is time for both of us to move in different directions."

“Looking back on my time at the club, especially our unforgettable promotion run in the 2024-25 season, I am very proud. It is an absolute honor to lead this team to the Premier League.”

“I want to thank Alan and the entire team for their support during my time as coach. I also want to thank the outstanding and tireless staff behind the scenes, and most importantly, the players who gave their all from the first day I arrived.”

"Finally, thank you to the Burnley fans. I wish you and this great club all the best for the future."

With Parker's departure, assistant coach Mike Jackson will serve as interim head coach, leading the team for the remaining four games of the season. Meanwhile, Burnley has officially begun the selection process for their new head coach for the 2026-27 season.
