Hoffenheim announced on Wednesday that they have renewed the contract of Leon Avdoulaye. The club has not yet disclosed the contract length or other details.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Abdullahu's contract has been extended from 2029 to June 30, 2031. Hoffenheim's move is intended to prevent potential poaching attempts, especially from Atletico Madrid and Atalanta, who have previously expressed interest in signing him.
The 22-year-old Avdurahu primarily plays as a defensive midfielder and began his professional career at Swiss Super League powerhouse Basel. During his two seasons with Basel, he made 71 appearances across all competitions, contributing 3 goals and 1 assist, and winning both the Swiss Super League and the Swiss Cup with the team.
In July 2025, Abdullahu transferred to Hoffenheim for €8 million. So far this season, he has made 32 appearances for Hoffenheim, helping the team to a fifth-placed Bundesliga team with a record of 17 wins, 6 draws, and 8 losses, accumulating 57 points.
Following the contract extension, Hoffenheim's sporting director, Andreas Schickel, said: "Leon is an excellent example of how young players can grow at Hoffenheim. I am very pleased that he is willing to continue to work with us, and the team has thus retained an iconic figure."
“Leon is good at reading the game. He is a tactician, and his vision is crucial to our games.”
Avdurahu added, "When I first joined last summer, I said that I was incredibly proud to be a part of Hoffenheim. Today, that pride is stronger than ever."
"Everything we discussed back then has become a reality. I hope to continue to be an integral part of this development process and contribute to the success of the team and the club."
