Maximilian Arnold has been hampered by a groin injury for several weeks and will miss the remainder of the season, ending his season prematurely.

Wolfsburg will lose their captain for the remainder of the 2025/2026 season. Maximilian Arnold, who has been suffering from a groin injury for weeks, will miss the team's three away games against Freiburg, Bayern Munich, and St. Pauli, and may also miss the potential relegation play-offs.

Head coach Dieter Hecking said of Maximilian Arnold: "Maximilian Arnold's form has been inconsistent recently, and he has never been able to meet the physical standards required for his high-intensity playing style. Unfortunately, he suffered a recurrence of his injury during training on Sunday. After communicating with the medical team and considering the overall plan for the new season, we have decided to have him withdraw from the remainder of the season."

Maximilian Arnold came on as a substitute in the last round's away game against Union Berlin, which marked his 400th appearance for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

Maximilian Arnold expressed his deep regret over this. He stated, "With the full support of the medical team, I tried various methods over the past few weeks. But when you realize that these methods are not working, you have to make a decision, even if it is very difficult."

“Those who know me well know that I am very sorry that I cannot help the team during this difficult period. Although I am actively undergoing rehabilitation training, I will continue to follow the team and support them in achieving our common goal, which is to stay in the Bundesliga.”
