Thunder defeated Rockets; DeGnott praised Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's outstanding ability to penetrate and defend.

Thanks to scoring from Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Ajay Mitchell, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Houston Rockets 111-91 in another key game of the 2025/26 NBA regular season. Head coach DeGnott stated that Gilgeous-Alexander performed exceptionally well on drives to the basket and helped the team create shooting opportunities.

According to the data, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 20 points and 4 assists in this game, Chet Holmgren scored 18 points and 1 assist, while Ajay Mitchell contributed 17 points and 3 assists for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When discussing Gilgeous-Alexander's performance against the defense, Oklahoma City Thunder head coach DeGnott said, "He made a few mistakes at the beginning under this kind of defense, I think that was because we were dealing with the way the opponent was defending him, but then he found a good balance."

“We wanted him to try to break down those defenses instead of being forced into double teams every time. We tried to give him space to break down defenses and drive to the basket. I think he did a great job in that regard; when he was screened, he was able to read the defense correctly and pass the ball out.”

DeGnott also pointed out, "This allows us to have a 4-on-3 situation, so he did a great job. Jalen Williams went 2-for-11 but dished out 10 assists. Even though the Houston Rockets put almost all their defensive resources on them, I think both players stepped out of that situation very well and allowed their teammates to play in advantageous positions."
