The Athletic's resident renowned English transfer journalist David Ornstein, exclusively reported on Tuesday that Liverpool are planning to sign Nottingham Forest's Brazil international defender Murillo this summer.
According to Ornstein, regardless of whether Nottingham Forest have secured their Premier League status by the end of the season, and regardless of whether France international defender Ibrahima Konaté successfully renewed his contract with the club, the Reds have already identified Murillo as one of their summer transfer targets.
He said, aware of Nottingham Forest's historically aggressive approach to transfers, Liverpool are prepared to potentially submit an offer of £70 million to £100 million to have any hope of signing Murillo.
However, out of respect for Murillo's continued focus on his club's survival hopes, the Reds will not engage in formal negotiations with Nottingham Forest or the player's agents at this time.
Meanwhile, Ornstein added that Liverpool will conduct an internal review of head coach Arne Slot's position after the end of the season.
At that time, the management will decide whether to part ways with the Dutch coach after consulting with scouts, data analysts, and players regarding Slot's and his coaching staff's performance this season.
However, before that, Liverpool has no intention of sacking Slot, and online rumours claiming that Xabi Alonso has signed a three-year contract with the club to succeed him are unfounded.
About Murillo
The 23-year-old Murillo was born on July 4, 2002, in São Paulo, Brazil. He is 1.84 meters tall and plays as a center back.
Murillo played for the youth academies of several non-league clubs in São Paulo during his childhood. In 2019, he joined Corinthians' youth academy and completed his Corinthians first-team debut in April 2023.
On the following year's summer transfer window deadline day, Murillo joined Nottingham Forest for €15 million.
Since joining Forest, Murillo has made 105 appearances for the Premier League club in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and providing 2 assists. During which he has helped the club shockingly secure the UEFA Europa League spot once.
