RPG games come in many forms, including world exploration, character development, monster fighting and leveling up, teaming up to conquer dungeons, defeating monsters to claim the highest rewards, choosing a class, purchasing equipment and weapons, and exploring maps with other players, like in "Perfect World." Or, you can simply follow the storyline, occasionally visiting a friend's world, collecting materials, and embarking on a multiplayer adventure, like in "Genshin Impact." What is the definition of this game?
Gameplay: Combat, Exploration, Casual
The official simplification of the "Honor of Kings World" setting might be a way to avoid letting a new IP overshadow the original and to prevent it from going astray. While it will certainly continue the hero combat experience, it also adds social and casual gameplay such as card games, farming, and open-world exploration, with activation and expansion being one of its goals. This approach is understandable. First, it restores the hero combat design, which may sound a bit dull, but it maintains the original's emotional connection, allowing players to experience their spellcasting and swordplay in a larger world, thus winning them over emotionally. Secondly, it addresses casual modes with activities like photography and farming to satisfy diverse needs of casual users, fulfilling their diverse requirements all at once.
Spending: Card draws, cosmetic items
The gameplay is as described for now. As for the commercial design, while *Honor of Kings* sells skins, *Honor of Kings World* sells characters. The starting point is the Child of Yuanliu, the main protagonist of the story, but a well-organized team is needed for switching attacks during battles. Therefore, a gacha system is adopted, allowing players to collect heroes. Of course, core resources can be obtained by exploring the game and completing main and side quests, and can be purchased additionally to accelerate character development. Furthermore, monetization will focus on cosmetic items. The Yuanliu set in *Honor of Kings* is frequently given away through events and can be redeemed in the Star Coin Shop. In the new world, changing your appearance will require spending money for customization.
It's hard to predict the future direction of Honor of Kings right after its launch, but there will definitely be a sense of novelty. Its emergence shows that Honor of Kings is based on a solid foundation, with long-term operation, content presentation, business channels, and user ecosystem being covered one by one, providing diverse experiences and opening up new space. We'll wait and see if it can steal the spotlight.
