The new hero Yu the Great in Season 42 has been largely ignored, the significance of the cauldron's design remains unclear, and the choice between teleportation and recovery is unclear.

On the forums, everyone's talking about matchmaking algorithms, merging the battle pass system with season missions, and even identifying the "meta hero" and "loser" in high-elo games. But have you noticed something unusual? The new hero introduced in Season 42, Da Yu, seems to be getting less attention. During the test server, everyone was optimistic that he would bring a fresh experience to the development lane, replacing the old system with appealing skill mechanics. Perhaps because he was just released, summoners were busy climbing the ranks, and his appearance wasn't considered particularly cool, so no one really paid much attention to him. This indirectly suggests that his current stats are just average.
This season emphasizes hero balance. Unlike previous seasons where new heroes were immediately overpowered and had mediocre attack methods, Da Yu hasn't had a truly effective playstyle yet. It will take time to explore and develop. While his strengths are hard to pinpoint, his weaknesses are all too apparent after a few games. Ironically, you occasionally encounter Da Yu players who verbally abuse their teammates, demanding they stand on the cauldron to gain invulnerability, only to be reminded by opponents that the buff only applies to the hero himself; teammates simply absorb the energy flow and recover health as they pass by.
Pain Point 1: Ding
The first pain point is the design of the cauldron, which is his minor skill. He can place up to eight cauldrons, but this is limited to level three initially, with one more added for each subsequent level. His exclusive "weapon" is not for directly attacking targets. After being released in a designated direction, it functions like a mechanical unit. You can think of it as a vision device similar to Baili Shouyue's vision system, providing vision. It is deactivated by standing still and dismantling it, much like the scene you see in shooting games like "Peacekeeper Elite." Similarly, this cauldron can be used as a teleportation skill, similar to the original magic circle teleportation in the top lane. For a support, this greatly increases roaming and support efficiency, which is a good design.
Eight cauldrons were placed in various locations, including the jungle, mid lane, top lane, and side lane turrets. If a team had a Yu the Great player, they could use this mechanism to teleport to another location. Furthermore, it functioned similarly to a health pack, restoring health and sustaining the player and teammates as they passed by. This continued until team fights began, at which point players would instinctively throw a cauldron into the surrounding environment to heal, causing new cauldrons to replace earlier ones, ultimately forcing the teleportation portal to be discontinued.
