Inter Bogota announced on their official website on Tuesday that Sunderland's Colombia international midfielder Ian Poveda has joined the club on a free transfer.
According to the Colombian Categoría Primera A club's official statement, Poveda has signed on a short-term contract which will only run until the end of the season. He will also wear the number 99 jersey.
About Ian Poveda
The 26-year-old Ian Poveda was born on February 9, 2000, in London, England. He is 1.67 meters tall and primarily plays as a right midfielder, but can also play as a left midfielder or attacking midfielder. He holds dual British and Colombian citizenship.
Poveda joined Chelsea's youth academy at the age of seven, and later played for Arsenal's youth academy and Barcelona's renowned La Masia youth academy.
In 2014, Poveda was forced to leave Barcelona after the club have been exposed to have violaed international youth player transfer regulations. He then joined Brentford's youth academy.
During his time at Brentford's youth academy, Poveda's outstanding performances attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs.
In the summer of 2016, Poveda joined Manchester City's youth academy and completed his Manchester City first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a Carabao Cup match.
The following January, Poveda joined Leeds United for £2.5 million.
During his four-year spell with the Whites, Poveda won the EFL Championship title once. He also had loan spells at Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, and Sheffield Wednesday.
After his contract expired in July 2024, Poveda joined Sunderland on a free transfer.
During his 18-month spell with the Black Cats, plagued by persistent injuries, Poveda only made 12 appearances for the Premier League dark horse in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists.
