Criscio Somerville: We know the challenges ahead are very tough, and it will be a hard-fought match.


Christencio Somerville says becoming a father for the first time has given him extra motivation for his recent outstanding performances at West Ham United. Since welcoming his daughter with his partner in December, the number 7 jersey wearer has been in red-hot form, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists in his last 10 appearances across all competitions. The winger admitted that his excellent performances on the pitch are partly due to the new responsibilities he has taken on off the field.  

 

The player said, "I welcomed the birth of my daughter last December, which brought me a lot of peace. It's a huge blessing from God, and I feel very happy. I think everyone can see from my performance on the field that I'm enjoying the game and enjoying who I am right now."  

 

“I think this gives me more motivation. When she grows up, I hope she will know that her father has always worked hard for her. I want to do everything I can to give her the best childhood.”  

 

Crécio Somerville's goal-scoring form continues to rise, having scored in four consecutive Premier League matches, helping his team defeat Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, and Burnley. He then scored again in the FA Cup fourth round against Burton Albion, securing the victory for his team.  

 

He gained valuable experience in his first season at West Ham, where a complicated hamstring injury sidelined him for the entire second half of the 2024/25 season. As the season progresses, the 24-year-old has fully recovered his fitness and match fitness, gradually returning to his previous level.  

 

Christencio Somerville said: "After a frustrating season and being plagued by injuries, it has become an inspiration and a challenge that has enabled me to return in better shape. I am happy to be back on the pitch, fighting alongside the team and showing the fans what I can do to meet their expectations."  

 

“I want to emphasize again that I can truly enjoy playing football on the pitch. I know I’m in good form recently and will continue to work hard to maintain this momentum.”  

 

Cricenceo Somerville's next goal is to help West Ham United get back on track in their away game against Fulham. A win would be their first time out of the relegation zone since the end of November.  

 

He added: "Of course, I think we've made significant progress at the start of the season and hopefully can maintain that momentum. We know our place and we have to give it our all. We'll fight for the fans until the very last game of the season because I believe we deserve our Premier League status and we have to stick with it."  

 

“We know the road ahead will be very difficult, it will be a tough battle. We know we are not in a good position right now, so we must give it our all. The progress we made at the beginning of the season has given us confidence, and we need to draw all the positives from the past few games and take it one game at a time. For us, every game is like a final, and we must maintain that mentality.”
