BBC: Brighton have officially activated Welbeck's contract extension clause, extending his contract until June 2027.

According to an exclusive report by BBC Sport correspondent Sami Mokbel on Monday, Brighton has officially activated Danny Welbeck's contract extension clause. His contract will be extended for another year, from its original expiry date this summer, until June 30, 2027.

The 35-year-old Welbeck has had an outstanding season, currently leading the team's scoring charts with 11 goals in 30 appearances. He scored his most recent goal for Brighton in last weekend's 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

If we include his performances over the past five seasons, Welbeck has made 191 appearances for Brighton, scoring 48 goals and providing 17 assists. His most glorious moment for Brighton was undoubtedly reaching the Europa League Round of 16 with the team in the 2023/24 season.

Thanks to his consistent performances at the club level, Welbeck has recently returned to the scouting list of England manager Thomas Tuchel. He is now highly likely to be recalled to the England national team and join them for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Since his first call-up to the England national team in March 2011, Welbeck has made 42 international appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing 4 assists. However, he has not been called up to the national team since September 2018.

Besides Brighton, Welbeck also played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Sunderland, Arsenal, and Watford. During this time, he won one Champions League title, one Club World Cup title, two Premier League titles, two FA Cup titles, two League Cup titles, and three Community Shield titles with Manchester United and Arsenal.
