After a long and difficult injury spree in the early stages of his career, French center-back Wesley Fofana has finally made a full comeback in the 2025-26 season.
So far this season, Fofana has made 26 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, setting a new single-season appearance record since joining in 2022. However, for Fofana, personal fitness and perfect attendance are only the foundation; his ultimate goal is to help the team lift the trophy at the end of the season.
In a pre-match interview with Aston Villa, Fofana made no secret of his desire for honors: "I'm happy to get rid of injuries and continue playing for the team, but winning a trophy at the end of the season would be the real perfect ending."
"Although winning the Premier League title is quite difficult right now, the team's clear goal is to maintain a top-three finish in the league and make a strong push for the FA Cup and the Champions League. Chelsea is a top club, and winning the title is everyone's mission."
Since Liam Rosenior took over as manager, Chelsea's tactical style has undergone a significant transformation. Fofana praised the new manager's philosophy, noting that the team now plays more aggressively, emphasizing active running off the ball and more direct transitions between attack and defense.
Despite the team's defensive shortcomings, particularly in set-piece defense, which have resulted in conceding goals, Fofana firmly believes the team is on the right track and is continuously refining the details in training.
Fofana, who missed the match against Arsenal due to suspension, will return for the game against Aston Villa. He emphasized the importance of this match: "Beat Aston Villa and we can stay close to our opponents in the standings. The whole team will continue to implement a high-pressing style of play, with only one goal: to take three points away from home."
